Chief Executive Officer
The Professional Liability Fund is seeking a new CEO with a desired start date of December 1, 2019. As an independently managed subdivision of the Oregon State Bar, the PLF has a staff of 50 and an annual budget of $28 million. Reporting to the PLF’s Board, the CEO provides leadership and management for the PLF. Primary responsibilities include policy development, personnel management, claims management, overseeing the budget and investments, and cultivating relationships with the PLF’s stakeholders, including Oregon lawyers, the Board of Bar Governors and Bar leadership. The position involves building relationships with the Oregon lawyers who defend claims against the PLF’s covered parties, with the PLF’s reinsurers, and with the PLF’s board members, among others.
To fill this position, the PLF is looking for an Oregon lawyer with management and litigation experience, including evaluating risk and trial strategies. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills; be able to identify opportunities for organizational development; be able to lead the organization toward solutions; be decisive, yet open minded; be able to work both collaboratively and independently; and be able to work on a regular basis at the PLF’s offices in Tigard, but do some traveling throughout the state and occasionally nationally and internationally.
